Discarded smoking materials are a common cause of accidental fires in agricultural properties.
Small fires can smoulder undetected for some considerable time and, when noticed, it is often too late to stop a huge blaze.
Fires have even been known to start when birds pick up discarded cigarette ends, that have not been properly extinguished, and carry them into a barn!
The best way to prevent these fires is to have a ‘no smoking’ policy and advertise this by erecting signs which will inform anybody who enters the yard.
