This statement relates to the website of Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
- Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content). We plan to add text alternatives for all images by September 2023. When we publish new content we’ll make sure our use of images meets accessibility standards.
Work is ongoing to resolve issues with online forms (including within the General Enquiries form within Contact Us), which currently fail WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value: Select element must have an accessible name. We hope to have this resolved by May 2023.
Some issues are caused by third party content accessed via an iframe – such as the absence of an accessible name within the Safe & Well referral form. This may not be achievable within this iteration of the website, but can be resolved when the site undergoes a full refresh/rebuild, probably in 2025-26. As such, it fails WCAG 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks and WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value: Frames must have an accessible name.
There are also issues with the job alerts within the Current Vacancies page and this remains under investigation. As such, it currently fails WCAG 2.4.3 Focus Order. We hope to have this resolved by May 2023.
- Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 3 February 2023, following a partial audit by Government Digital Service in August 2022. A full review and audit will be carried out by our web contractor by December 2023.
