Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Authority is committed to ensure that our training facilities are more sustainable, cost efficient and operationally effective. It recognises the deficiencies and risks associated with the current training provision.
We are therefore looking to have operational training provisions at Devizes and Weymouth. We intend to make enhancements to the current facilities at Devizes, and make the following changes to the site at Weymouth:
- Repurpose the community building for classrooms and office space;
- Build an environmentally-friendly firefighting training facility;
- Enhance road traffic collision training facilities;
- Enhance the working at heights training tower;
- Improve specialist training facilities for our crews; and
- Improve the welfare facilities for firefighters.
The design will incorporate the following considerations:
- Indoor RTC training area
- Acoustic fencing for neighbours and screening through natural vegetation
- The installation of modern, environmentally-friendly afterburner technology
- Mostly one course per day and not every day, with occasional weekend courses
- Sufficient car parking within the design, and car sharing always encouraged
