Frequently asked questions – project

Q. How can I get involved?

A. We are briefing and consulting with all stakeholders during October and November 2022. We are keen to hear your views and maintain two-way communication at all stages of the project. All feedback will be considered in developing our final designs for planning and building control applications in February 2023. Please get in touch if you have any concerns at [email protected]

Q. Have you considered the risk of spiralling building costs? Is the £8million realistic?

A. There is a 20% contingency for inflation accounted for within the overall budget and a further 6.2% environmental contingency.

Q. Will it break even?

A. The project was never intended as a cost-saving exercise, rather an opportunity for us to maximise the value in our estate in delivering an effective and modern training provision for our firefighters.

Q. How will you manage the impact of the construction work taking place?

A. The work will only be awarded to contractors who are signed up to the Considerate Constructors scheme – www.ccscheme.org.uk. All parking requirements will be contained on site and work will happen during 8am to 5pm weekdays only. There is no burning on site during construction and rubbish will be taken off site. The project will be closely managed by our in-house surveyor, any concerns please email [email protected]
