It is a good idea to check the level of fire safety in your business. For small businesses and less complex premises, we are launching an initiative called Business Fire Safety Checks. This is a simple way to ensure that you’re on the right track to providing correct fire safety provisions.
During the check, an operational fire crew will discuss ten areas of fire safety with you. Discussions on these fire safety areas will aid firefighters in giving simple advice on how to make your premises and the people within it safer from the risk of fire, or may just confirm that you’re doing the right thing regarding fire safety within your premises. They will also provide you with a Making your premises safe from fire leaflet, which will confirm the advice you may have been given and signpost you to places to get further assistance regarding fire safety matters.
It is important to note that a Business Fire Safety Check is not a comprehensive inspection completed under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Advice will be provided if appropriate, based on observations, to help you provide adequate fire safety, but should not be taken as an indication of compliance with fire safety legislation. Any advice is goodwill and provided without prejudice to any future statutory interventions.
