Public Sector Equality Duty

The Public sector equality duty came in to force in April 2011 (s.149 of the Equality Act 2010) and public authorities, including Fire and Rescue Services are now required to demonstrate due regard to the need to achieve the objectives set out under s149 of the Equality Act 2010 to:

As a Service provider, it is important to consider how our actions can impact different groups in different ways, this ensures that our services meet the diverse needs of our service users. To undertake these assessments, we carry out People Impact Assessments which consider the positive and/or potential negative impacts on each of the protected characteristics as well as other non-legislative considerations which consider other vulnerabilities. Through these assessments we can ensure our services meet the diverse needs of both our workforce and our communities.
