Most of our wholetime stations (Swindon, Stratton, Salisbury, Weymouth, Redhill Park, Springbourne, Westbourne and Christchurch) operate on a shift system, also known as 2-2-4.
Staff are assigned to one of four watches, working a 42-hour week over an eight-week cycle; this involves two day shifts of 8am to 6pm, then two night shifts of 6pm to 8am. The remainder of that fourth day and the next three full days are then rest days.
At Westlea, Chippenham and Trowbridge, staff work the day crewed system, split into two watches. This means working three days on station, 8am to 6pm, and being available on-call from home on the three nights, followed by three rest days. Anyone based at these stations has to live, or have accommodation, within a five minute response time of the station, for which you get paid additional allowances.
Successful applicants will be asked to express preferences as to where they could be located, but the Service’s needs will determine eventual postings.
