Review
You should constantly monitor the processes you are implementing for your fire safety precautions. This will enable you to ensure your fire risk assessment is suitable and sufficient for your premises.
If there is a significant change in the premises that will affect your fire safety you will need to review the current fire risk assessment, and in some cases completely revise it.
Some examples of changes that may occur in your premises include:
- Changes to work processes, introduction of new machinery
- Alterations to the building including the internal layout
- Substantial changes to furniture and fittings
- Introduction or an increase in the use of hazardous substances
- Failure of fire precautions, fire alarms system, sprinklers, ventilation systems.
- Significant changes to displays or quantities of stock
- A significant increase in the number of people present in the premises, for example an increase in seasonal footfall.
As the responsible person it is your responsibility to consider the potential fire risk before any changes are introduced.
You do not need to amend you fire risk assessment for trivial changes, only if you are introducing potential fire hazards.
If you keep your fire risk assessment under review it will ensure that the fire safety precautions are working effectively.
