We are blessed with some amazing areas of heathland within our Service area. These areas of outstanding beauty are home to some of the country’s rarest creatures but, during periods of prolonged dry weather, they are prone to wild fires.
Our team of volunteers are people who often use the heathland in their everyday activities, be it dog walking, horse riding or some other form of exercise. Whilst going about these activities, they speak to members of the public about the safest way to enjoy these beautiful areas. They are also an extra pair of eyes for potential dangers which can be reported and dealt with.
During heath fires, this team of volunteers can be called upon to assist with passing on information to the public and offering various avenues of support to the Service.
