House fire, Weymouth

Date: 26th August, 2023

Time: 1.30am

Description: Firefighters in Weymouth rescued a resident this morning following a house fire in the town.

At approximately 1.30am this morning (26 August) firefighters were called to reports of a fire in the kitchen of a property in Seven Acres Road, Weymouth. Whilst firefighters were enroute, fire control operators were able to provide fire survival guidance to one occupant who was unable to escape the property. On arrival, firefighters entered the property and rescued one female. One male and two children had already escaped. Smoke alarms within the three-storey property had activated and alerted the family to the fire.

Approximately 20 firefighters attended this incident from Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester. Crews used six sets of breathing apparatus and three hoses to extinguish the fire, which is believed to have ignited accidentally.

Station Manager Dan Joslin, who attended the incident said: “This is another great example of how our teams work together. Fire Control staff were able to provide fire survival guidance to the female within the property and use the information she provided to direct firefighters straight to her when they arrived. Firefighters rescued the occupier from a window and then entered the property, they were able to contain the fire to the kitchen. We worked with our partners from Dorset Police and South West Ambulance Service to bring this incident to a swift conclusion.”

All four family members were taken to hospital by ambulance service colleagues. Two pet dogs were also in the property at the time of the fire, sadly firefighters were only able to rescue one. The stop message was received at 4.35am, but firefighters will return to the incident in daylight hours to reinspect and offer home safety advice to nearby properties.
